Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan to continue cooperation in agricultural sector

On May 16, a meeting with a delegation headed by Chairman of the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan Tahmazli Goshgar took place at the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, the press office of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan reported.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Kakhramon Yuldashev headed the Uzbek side at the talks.

The parties exchanged views on the current state and prospects of Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan cooperation in the agro-industrial sector, joint efforts in ensuring food security and exchange of experiences.

In the first three months of the year, agricultural trade between the two countries amounted to $5.3 million. Uzbekistan exported grapes, beans, peanuts and seeds of different cotton varieties to Azerbaijan. It is planned to export hazelnut seedlings from Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan.

The Azerbaijani delegation will hold a series of meetings at the Agency of Plant Protection and Quarantine, the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine and Development of Animal Husbandry and the Service for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health during the visit to the capital of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have been cooperating in the agricultural sector since 2002, after signing the interdepartmental agreement.
