Japarov urges CSTO to mitigate impact of sanctions

On May 16, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov addressed the anniversary summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which took place in Moscow. The Kyrgyz leader said the sanctions pose a threat to food and energy security of his country, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

“The Kyrgyz economy has not yet recovered from the COVID pandemic, as the sanctions began to threaten its food and energy security, macroeconomic sustainability and social stability,” the President of Kyrgyzstan said.

In this regard, he highlighted the need to develop common approaches to mitigate the impact of sanctions and prevent deterioration in the socio-economic conditions in the CSTO Member States.

Japarov noted that the EAEU summit, which would be held in Bishkek in a week, would give an opportunity to discuss this issue.

The Kyrgyz leader also noted that security threats and military-political tensions have crept close to the CSTO’s borders.
