On May 16, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon took part in the anniversary summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. He emphasised that the CSTO is facing a difficult situation on its southern borders, the Ala-Too 24 news channel reported.
Emphasising that threats to regional security may come from Afghanistan, where the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia and Tajikistan) is currently in power, Rahmon highlighted the need to strengthen border security and control and put border troops on high alert.
The Tajik leader also stressed that Dushanbe does not intend to stand aside. The relevant authorities will continue to do everything necessary to ensure regional security.
Prior to the summit, Rahmon met with RF President Vladimir Putin. They focused on modernising the Tajik army and tackling the situation on Tajik-Afghan border. The meeting took place a week after several bullets were fired into Tajikistan from the South Asian neighbour.
