Serdar Berdimuhamedov becomes head of Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan

On May 10, a meeting of the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan took place in Ashgabat. Participants of the event chose the new head of the organization by voting. President of the country Serdar Berdimuhamedov became the chief of the committee unanimously, as reported by «Turkmenistan today».

Previously, the post was held by the former head of the state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. He has occupied the position since February 28, 2007.

In 2017, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan decided to award Serdar Berdimuhamedov the title of Honored Coach. The deputies noted the merits and personal contribution of the politician to the development and enhancement of the image of Turkmenistan in the international sports arena. Particular attention was paid to his role in the successful training of athletes who took part in the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

On April 28 this year, the president of Turkmenistan signed a decree on the establishment of the Organizing Committee for the training of national teams for participation in the XXXIII Summer Olympic and XVII Summer Paralympic Games, which will be held in Paris in two years.
