Uzbekistan solemnly celebrates Victory Day

On May 9, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has laid wreaths at the Ode to Fortitude Monument in the capital city to commemorate Victory Day and the Day of Remembrance and Honours, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

Representatives of ministries and departments, the Armed Forces, government agencies and public organisations accompanied the President of Uzbekistan in the solemn ceremony.

After the flower laying ceremony, the Uzbek leader congratulated citizens of the country on the Great Victory Day:

“Standing in the Victory Park today, I sincerely congratulate our esteemed veterans and all our people on this holiday. At these moments, we remember our heroic ancestors and bow to their courage. Their multifaceted path of life, dedicated to peace and freedom, is a great and timeless legacy for future generations,” President Mirziyoyev said.

On that day, President Mirziyoyev visited the veterans of the Great Patriotic War Abbos Ota Appanov and Fyodor Fedin in Tashkent.

Abbos Ota Appanov went to the front in 1942, fought in Belarus and near Smolensk and liberated Poland and Hungary. After the war, he worked almost all his life in a rural school as a German language teacher and complied a German elementary school textbook.

Fedor Fedin came to live in Uzbekistan from Russia after the war. He went to the front in 1944 and took part as a signaller in the battles near Minsk; he worked at the Tashkent aircraft plant after the war from 1949.

The President congratulated the war veterans and wished them good health and long life.
