President of Uzbekistan attends opening ceremony of new road section

On May 3, the opening ceremony the new road and road junction, the construction of which started in 2020, took place in the capital of Uzbekistan, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the opening ceremony of the new transport infrastructure facilities.

The new 6,5-km section of a six-lane road connects Kipchak Street in Sergeli district of Tashkent with Chuponot and Usman Nosir Streets in Yakkasaray district. A six-ramp junction has been built for the drivers’ convenience and easy access to the city districts.

Henceforth, drivers do not need to go to the centre of Tashkent through Yangi Sergeli Street does not have the capacity to handle peak-hour loads and causes more road congestion, provoking traffic jams that grow to many kilometres during peak hours.

The new road has the capacity of up to 12,000 vehicles per hour. Trees have been planted along the route, energy-saving street lamps have been installed and sidewalks and bicycle paths have been laid.

In addition to the new road, a 6-km section of the ring road around Sergeli district will be built.
