Berdimuhamedov extends validity of foreign passports of citizens abroad

On April 28, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a resolution on the extension of foreign passport validity for citizens who are currently temporarily and permanently staying on the territory of another state due to restrictions on international flight. It was reported by the state news agency «Turkmenistan today».

According to the order, the documents required for leaving the country and entering it will be extended until December 31, 2024. The resolution says that new rules apply to citizens with foreign passports with the validity expiring on January 1, 2023 — December 30, 2024.

The decree was signed by the president in order to protect the rights and interests of the people of Turkmenistan.

As part of a government resolution signed last summer, the foreign passport validity was extended until December 31, 2022. Documents were given to citizens at the embassies and consulates, or sent by mail at the expense of the applicant.

The restrictions on international flights were introduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
