Sanatoria and hotels without water treatment facilities in Issyk-Kul prohibited to operate

On April 27, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov signed the decree on the prohibition for rest houses in Issyk-Kul region, which do not have waste treatment facilities, to operate from January 1, 2023, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The environmental conditions on the territory of the resort and recreational zone are worsening. One of the main sources of pollution of lake ecosystems and the territory of Lake Issyk-Kul is the cities and towns located in the coastal zone and along the river banks.

As reported, hundreds of boarding houses and rest houses located in the coastal zone, which do not have waste treatment facilities, have the increasingly negative impact on Lake Issyk-Kul.

With the view to preventing an environmental catastrophe in the biosphere reserve and protecting Lake Issyk-Kul ecology, sanatoria, boarding houses, rest houses, cottage settlements, guest houses, hotels and other facilities in the resort and recreational zone of Issyk-Kul Region, which do not have water treatment networks and facilities, will be prohibited to operate from January 1, 2023.
