On April 22, the high-level briefing “Tajikistan’s National Strategy on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism for 2021-2025” was held at the Headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva. Its participants considered the actions to be implemented within the Strategy, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported.
The keynote speaker was Prosecutor General of Tajikistan Rahmon Yusuf. He informed in detail about the trends and prospects of interaction between Dushanbe and its neighbours in the region and international organisations in countering terrorism and extremism.
Officials from Uzbekistan, China, Turkey, Armenia, Iran and employees of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe commended Tajikistan for the progress in this area. They also noted the initiatives of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic for responding to modern threats.
Prior to the briefing, Yusuf met with Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Vladimir Voronkov. They highlighted the importance of strengthening contacts between Tajikistan and UNOCT.
