Japarov hands over document on entry to ICSID to World Bank leadership

On April 23, Chairman of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Japarov met with the World Bank leadership during his working visit to the United States. The Prime Minister deposited a document on Kyrgyzstan’s entry to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

“Today we are sending a clear signal of our commitment to the legal and regulatory framework for dispute resolution that meets the highest international standards,” Akylbek Japarov said.

He noted that a recent example of the use of legal frameworks and procedures by Kyrgyzstan to resolve international disputes is the agreement on the Kumtor mining project.

Secretary-General of ICSID Meg Kinnear emphasised that ICSID membership builds and strengthens the international legal architecture that underpins the flow of international investments.

The ICSID Convention provides the basic procedural framework for conciliation and arbitration of investment disputes.
