In Turkmenistan school students take part in «Green Games»

Students at school No.1 in Anau, Akhal province, Turkmenistan took part in the «Green Games». The event was held as a competition on collecting plastic waste. It was organized by the United Nations Development Program in honor of International Mother Earth Day, as reported by the press office of the UNDP.

The games were held with the assistance of the Nature Conservation Society of Turkmenistan. The students were divided into three teams. As part of the competition, they had a conversation with the representatives of the organization about the plastic pollution.

Volunteers, environmental activists and teachers took part in the Green Games as well. The winners received prizes from the UN Development Program. These were basketballs, volleyballs, chess and jump ropes. After the event, a tree-planting campaign was organized on the territory of the school.

The UNDP and the Global Environment Facility are implementing the project «Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Green Urban Development in Ashgabat and Avaza». Its main goal is to reduce the negative consequences of urban growth in the Central Asian country.
