Authorities of Tajikistan to spend $149.4 million on development of Penjikent

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon made a working trip to Sughd Region (the northern region of the country). During his visit to Penjikent, the Tajik leader delivered a speech to its residents at the central stadium. The emphasis was placed on the further development of the city, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported on April 14.

Rahmon said the 5500th anniversary of Sarazm was celebrated in Penjikent on September 12, 2020. The President noted that Penjikent has the significant production potential as one of the largest industrial cities in Tajikistan. It has an excellent climate, beautiful nature, rich water resources and large agricultural land extent, the Tajik leader added.

The President said the Penjikent social and economic development programme for 2021-2025 envisages implementing 118 projects worth 1.86 billion somoni (about $149.4 million).

A number of investment projects are being implemented in the education, agricultural and energy sectors, as well as in the field of water supply and climate change adaptation in Penjikent, the President said.
