Tajikistan to make UN Water Conference global turning point

On April 12, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands held a briefing on the progress of preparatory work for the UN 2023 Water Conference at the United Nations headquarters. Particular attention was paid to plans for the future, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan on April 13.

Chairman of the Conference, Special Envoy of the President of Tajikistan on Water Affairs Sulton Rakhimzoda reported on further steps and expected outcomes in preparing for the international forum. Noting that water is a fundamental element of all areas of life, the Special Envoy emphasised that the UN Water Conference will focus on achieving the internationally-agreed water-related goals.

The participants noted that Tajikistan and the Netherlands will make the upcoming event a global turning point and turn the event into a new starting point for a concerted action by all nations to address water issues.

The United Nations Water Conference will be held in New York on March 22-24 next year under the chairmanship of Dushanbe and Amsterdam. This is the first UN water forum of its kind since the 1977 United Nations Water Conference in Mar del Plata.
