Turkmenistan holds Central Asia Women Leaders’ Caucus meeting

On April 12, prominent female politicians, as well as representatives of the UNDP and UN Women took part in the Central Asia Women Leaders’ Caucus meeting. It was held under the chairmanship of Turkmenistan for the first time, as reported by the press office of the UNRCCA.

The meeting was organized by the chairman of the Mejlis of Milli Gengesh (one of the chambers) of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova. She stressed that this year the platform will focus on promoting the improvement of the normative framework relating to gender equality, as well as enhancing economic empowerment and the role of women in addressing consequences of climate change.

Within the framework of the meeting, a regulation on further activities was adopted, country coordinators were appointed and other issues related to the implementation of the work of the Caucus were discussed.

The platform was officially inaugurated in December 2020 with the support of UNRCCA and UNDP to expand the political, economic and social participation of women in the Central Asian countries.
