On April 1, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Speaker of the Milli Majlis, the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, who arrived in Tashkent for a visit, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.
The guest conveyed greetings from President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the leader of Uzbekistan and thanked him for the warm welcome.
The talks focused on key aspects of bilateral cooperation in the widest range of areas. It was noted that Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have common historical, cultural, linguistic and religious roots that lay the foundation for strategic partnerships between the two states.
The meeting participants noted the progress in nearly all areas of cooperation – in the trade and economic, political, cultural and humanitarian areas and at the level of parliaments and public organisations. Over the past few years, despite the pandemic, commodity turnover has grown 4 times and trade – by 25 percent, about 200 Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan joint ventures have been set up.
The President of Uzbekistan and the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan called for further intensification of partnerships at the inter-parliamentary level.
