Kyrgyzstan finances first railway project in 30 years

On March 31, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov officially launched construction of the Balykchy-Kochkor railway. Kyrgyz Temir Zholu is currently implementing the Balykchy-Kochkor-Kara-Keche railway project (186 kilometres), the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

Japarov laid a time capsule with a message to future generations to mark the start of the first railway project in the history of independent Kyrgyzstan. He visited the railway station in Balykchy town to inspect the carriages.

“The President travelled 500 metres in a self-propelled railway car along the new line to inspect the progress of construction work on railway tracks,” the press office reported.

The project that will pave the least costly way to transport coal from Kara-Keche to Bishkek is of great socio-economic importance.

The project will allow achieving a number of goals. In particular, it will contribute to developing industrial enterprises, promoting the economy, creating transport links to the regions and strengthening integrity of the country.
