Tajikistan has created food reserve in case of crisis

Tajikistan has created a food reserve in connection with Western sanctions imposed on the trade partners of the Republic. This was done to prevent shortages of essential foods in situations when the national economy is facing the negative impacts of the crisis, the Khovar State News Agency reported.

The high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade noted that the Government has taken a number of measures to reduce exposure of the national economy to any potential external risks. The interagency task force has been set up to address relevant issues.

The anti-crisis action plan primarily focuses on providing local markets with flour, butter, meat, sugar, eggs and vegetables. According to the officials, thanks to farmers and manufacturers the Republic has created a food reserve.

In 2021, the volume of industrial and agricultural output was estimated at almost 80 billion somoni (about US$6.16 billion).
