Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan meet in narrow format

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki met in Ashgabat. The negotiations were held in a narrow format. The parties discussed interstate cooperation in various areas, as reported by the press office of the Turkmen MFA.

After that, an expanded format of the meeting was organized. The officials of the two countries paid special attention to the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan energy highway and the construction of a railway route from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.

Emphasis was also placed on the importance of expanding cooperation in ensuring regional security. Meredov said that Ashgabat is interested in the economic stability of the neighboring country, therefore it will continue to provide Afghanistan with the necessary assistance, including humanitarian help. Turkmenistan will expand the delivery of electricity to the South Asian country, he added.

Mottaki, in turn, thanked President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for his hospitality.
