Russia finances two major UNDP projects in Tajikistan

The Government of the Russian Federation is providing financial support to two major projects, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Tajikistan. The total amount of funding is about US$3.85 million. Minister-Counsellor of the RF Embassy Shamil Shamsutdinov made this statement on January 14, TASS News Agency reports.

Speaking at the UNDP Project Steering Committee meeting, the official emphasised that these projects aimed at strengthening communities in Khatlon Region and the Rasht Valley, as well as assisting to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic in the Ferghana Valley.

According to Shamsutdinov, the above initiatives had created 120 new jobs and built up capacity of 175 farms. The transborder trade facilitation project was launched in the Fergana Valley in January last year.
