Overseas Employment Centre opens in Kyrgyzstan

The Government of the Kyrgyz Republic took the decision to open the Overseas Employment Centre. The institution will be set up under the Ministry of Labour, Social Protection and Migration. Its main task is to protect the rights of migrant workers and members of their families, the press office of the Cabinet of Ministers reported to CentralAsia.news on January 15.

The government officials noted that this decision focused mainly on supporting Kyrgyz citizens who work in foreign countries. Not only their interests, but also the interests of their wives (husbands) and children will be protected.

Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov signed the relevant resolution. The document states that the Centre is set up at the information and consultation centre under the Department of External Migration under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Ministry of Labour was tasked to conduct state re-registration of the institution.

As was reported, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic in Moscow Gulnara-Klara Samat said as of the end of 2020, the total number of Kyrgyz citizens residing in Russia, including those registered as migrants and those staying illegally, amounted to 720,000. She noted that their number had significantly decreased due to the pandemic.
