Meeting on investment strategy in Tashkent

On January 12, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the investment activity and strategic development of the country in 2022, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The participants reported on the external economic indicators in 2021 and the 2022 action plans. In 2021, foreign investments worth more than US$ 10 billion were attracted, over 330 regional projects were launched, and more than 273,000 new jobs were created. In 2022, more than US$ 9.5 billion in foreign direct investment will be attracted and more than 280 new regional projects will be launched. Exports are planned to increase to US$ 14 billion.

Speaking about the shortcomings, the participants noted the low level of investment in the healthcare, tourism and engineering sectors in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Navoi and Khorezm Regions.

President Mirziyoyev gave specific instructions to support domestic producers and entrepreneurs and increase production. The emphasis was placed on the need to attract foreign grants to the Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region, the healthcare and other sectors and facilitate the accession of Uzbekistan to the World Trade Organization.

The participants discussed the 2022 action plans of the Agency for Strategic Development. In particular, it is planned to hold 18 important events aimed at improving the investment climate, promoting new investment projects, boosting digital transformations in the business sector and developing a joint strategy with the World Bank to attract foreign direct investment.
