Kyrgyz military to protect strategic facilities in Kazakhstan

On January 7, on the instructions of President Sadyr Japarov, the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic held an extraordinary meeting to consider the deployment of armed forces personnel of Kyrgyzstan in Kazakhstan, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The Parliament gave approval to the deployment of armed forces personnel of Kyrgyzstan in the neighbouring country who would participate in peacekeeping operations to stabilize the socio-political situation in Kazakhstan.

The authorities noted earlier that Kyrgyzstan intended to send 150 military servants and 19 equipment items to Kazakhstan.

According to the data presented, Kyrgyz peacekeepers will be involved in protecting facilities of strategic importance. They will not be involved in any activities with the participants in the actions in Kazakhstan.

As was reported, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a meeting of the Security Council. He highlighted the need to appeal to the CSTO for military assistance in stabilizing the situation in the country.
