On December 27, Speaker of the Upper Chamber of Parliament of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko informed that she would pay an official visit to Tajikistan in late February 2022. She emphasised that this plan was approved at the last meeting of the Federation Council, the press office of the Federation Council reported.
Matvienko noted that the programme of the visit to Dushanbe included an interregional cooperation forum and a meeting of the Inter-parliamentary Commission.
The Speaker of the Upper Chamber of Parliament said international trips were on a pause for too long, and visits to foreign countries should resume.
As was reported, Matvienko held talks with Speaker of the Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli and Mayor of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali in the capital of Tajikistan in November last year.
During the meeting, she emphasised that Russian senators were ready to expand cooperation with their counterparts from the Central Asian Republic. The importance of strengthening economic contacts was highlighted.
