Kazakhstan lowers prices of essential food items

On December 18, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin held a meeting with the ministers and heads of regions on the maintenance of stable prices of essential food items at the Digital Government Office, the press office of the Prime Minister reported to CentralAsia.news.

The officials reported that the prices of essential food items had decreased by 0.1% over the past few days across the country. The prices are decreasing in Turkestan, Mangistau and Karaganda Regions, Nur-Sultan, Almaty and Shymkent. Vegetable prices are decreasing, the prices for other foods remain the same.

The Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition has sent 113 notifications to market representatives, conducted 16 investigations and entered into 192 agreements with food producers to reduce trade “cheats” from 15% to 10%. The regulator of production and supply of an essential food item – the Association of Egg Producers of the Republic of Kazakhstan has reduced the price of chicken eggs by 16% at poultry farms in the country.

Commenting on the reports, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers tasked the state bodies and akimats to regulate the prices of essential food items.
