World Health Organization/Europe’s high level experts completed their one-week mission in Turkmenistan. The specialists held a series of meetings with representatives of the ministry of health and the medical industry. They formulated recommendations on the response to infectious diseases. It was reported by the UN press center on November 29.
The mission of the European office of the organization was led by Dr. Dorit Nitzan, Regional Emergency Director for WHO/Europe. She noted that experts highlighted the evolving nature of the pandemic throughout the Region due to the spread of the delta variant. WHO representatives visited several medical facilities.
The priorities of the work of the delegation of the World Health Organization included health diplomacy, emergency preparedness, expanding the capacity of epidemiological surveillance, digitalization and innovation, and a health roadmap for the states of the Central Asian region.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of strengthening the capacity in bacteriology and virology. Nitzan stressed the need to intensify efforts to detect coronavirus, timely inform citizens about the COVID-19 cases, and ensure transparency in this direction.
