Rahmon invites to expand trade potential of ECO Member States

On November 28, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon took part in the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Ashgabat. Addressing the forum, he called on the ECO Member States to strengthen trade cooperation, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

He noted that the key areas of the ECO’s activities included partnerships in the trade and investment sectors. The Tajik leader said the ECO Member States covered about 40% of Tajikistan’s foreign trade, noting that the portion of mutual trade within the Economic Cooperation Organization represented 8%.

The President spoke on the advisability of lifting some of transport and transit restrictions, as well as tariff and non-tariff trade barriers.

“We invite the Member States to develop a joint plan for the effective implementation of the trade potential of the ECO region,” the President of Tajikistan said.

The emphasis was placed on the need to facilitate the free movement of goods and services among the ECO Member States.
