President of Uzbekistan to take part in 15th ECO Summit

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will take part in the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization, which will be held in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, on November 28, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The Economic Cooperation Organization was established by three states – Turkey, Iran and Pakistan in 1985. From 1992, the Organization expanded to include the independent Central Asian states – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as Azerbaijan and Afghanistan. The ECO aims to assist in strengthening trade and economic cooperation among the countries of the region. The Organization currently has 10 Member States.

Uzbekistan became a member of the Economic Cooperation Organization in in 1992.

The Uzbek leader will hold a series of bilateral meetings during his visit to Turkmenistan.

The 15th ECO Summit will focus on building up partnerships of the Member States in such areas as trade, transport and transit corridors, ecology and innovation. Following the results of the event, the final document will be signed.
