Kazakhstan and EU discuss “practice” of enhanced cooperation agreement

On November 26, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met with President of the European Council Charles Michel during his official visit to Belgium. The meeting focused on the prospects of multi-format interaction between Kazakhstan and the EU in the effective implementation of the enhanced partnership and cooperation agreement, the press office of Akorda reported to CentralAsia.news.

The politicians shared the opinion about the importance of the full-scale implementation of the Agreement, the “letter” of which endorsed the legal spectrum of cooperation in 29 areas. They positively evaluated the progress of the implementation of the new EU-Central Asia concept, as well as the active dialogue between the EU and Central Asia.

The President of Kazakhstan emphasised that the Republic of Kazakhstan and the EU had built a substantive foundation for relations based on mutual trust, respect and common goals for over 30 years.

Speaking about the situation with water resources in the Central Asian region, the leader of Kazakhstan highlighted the need to set up the International Water and Energy Consortium that would regulate the balance of vital interests of the countries of the region in such fields as hydroelectric power, irrigation and nature protection. Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev invited the European partners to contribute to the implementation of Kazakhstan’s initiative.
