Tokayev urges to enhance Kazakhstan’s leadership in Central Asia

On November 18, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev addressed the diplomatic corps during an expanded meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Tokayev focused on the task of improving the status of the Republic in the region among key areas of activity, the press office of Akorda reported.

The President identified the enhancement of Kazakhstan’s leadership in the Central Asian region as an important vector of activity that Kazakh diplomats should pay special attention to. He highlighted the need to declare openly itself and its special regional status, since the country had all the grounds for that.

The President noted that Kazakh economy was many times stronger than other economies in Central Asia, and the Republic had the central geostrategic location at the junctions of the main transport arteries of Eurasia.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev emphasised that the ongoing large-scale economic and democratic reforms, the intellectual and human potential and the high international prestige made Kazakhstan responsible for the future of Central Asia.
