Internet users in Uzbekistan grow in number

On November 17, members of the Committee on Information Policy and Open Government of the Oliy Majlis Senate held a meeting on the prospects for promoting Internet services, the press office of the Senate reported.

Senators, representatives of the Committee and a number of ministries and departments, members of the Youth Parliament and journalists attended the meeting. They exchanged views on the agenda of the next session of the Senate.

Representatives of the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan reported on the work done to improve the performance of an Internet connection in the country and expand opportunities of citizens to freely access information on the Internet.

Over the past few years, the total length of fibre optic lines across the country has grown 4.5 times, and the number of Internet ports – 3.5 times. The speed of the backbone network has been increased to 400 Gbit/s at the interregional level and up to 40 Gbit/s at the interdistrict level.

The number of registered users on the Single Portal my.gov.uz is growing; it exceeds 850,000 users at the end of the year. The Single Portal provides 276 types of online services. The Single Portal platform has been connected to 750 post offices throughout the country that provide 30 types of public services.

Experts and senators shared their views on further improvements in the industry during the meeting.
