Regional economic development solutions discussed in Tashkent

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a videoconference on the issues regarding poverty reduction and employment promotion under the five-year national social and economic development programme, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

During the election campaign, Shavkat Mirziyoyev presented the development plans providing for the allocation of 75 trillion soums to the regions of the country, including 13 trillion soums, to support family businesses, retrain unemployed citizens and develop the service sector in 2022.

In 2022, it is planned to implement more than 1,600 projects worth over 18 trillion soums and 9,000 regional projects worth US$22 billion. 440,000 jobs will be created.

The programme envisages the distribution of more than 80 hectares of land among local people next year after reducing the number of cotton and grain fields. 2 trillion soums will be allocated to create agro-industrial clusters. Citizens willing to engage in agriculture on private plots will receive loans at 7 percent.

According to the new rules, investment programmes will be developed not by ministries, but by khokim assistants; it is also planned to distribute the funds provided by international financial organisations among mahallas.
