President of Tajikistan plants rare tree in Dushanbe

On November 14, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, his son – Mayor of Dushanbe and Speaker of the upper house of Parliament Rustam Emomali, Deputy Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda and Speaker of the lower house of Parliament Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda planted a rare tree – a sequoia on the Istiklol square under construction in the capital, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

Rahmon brought the tree to Tajikistan from abroad 20 years ago. It was planted in the Palace of the Nation. A sequoia tree can live up to 3,000 years. A tree can live up to 1,000 years in the climate conditions of the Central Asian country.

As of today, 5,510 unique decorative trees have been planted on the territory of the Istiklol Park. Its project was developed by the President of Tajikistan.

Istiklol occupies a total area of about 30 hectares; political events will take place on an area of 2.7 hectares. After Istiklol is put into operation, it will be the central square of Dushanbe.
