Kazakhstan and World Bank discuss green economy implementation

Chairman of the Government of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin met with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde and took part in a discussion session on investment promotion efforts towards improving the basic sectors of the economy to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality, the press office of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

“Over 55 projects worth more than US$ 8 billion have been implemented in such areas as finance, infrastructure, housing and communal services, energy, small and medium-sized businesses, agribusiness and information technology over the three decades of Kazakhstan-World Bank partnerships. 13 projects totalling US$ 3.6 billion from the World Bank’s investment portfolio are being implemented in the country,” the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan emphasised.

Mamin highlighted the need to promote bilateral cooperation towards the implementation of the green economy model in the country and to ensure sustainable growth.

The participants discussed the models and factors affecting the attraction of “green” investments and the creation of new sources of growth in such areas as energy, agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, engineering services and transport, among others. The international practices of state-run and private enterprises in strengthening low-carbon infrastructure and technologies were discussed.
