Kazakhstan and AstraZeneca sign Memorandum of Cooperation

A Memorandum of Cooperation with the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca was signed at the 8th plenary session of the Kazakhstan-UK Intergovernmental Commission chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Almas Aidarov and UK Minister for International Trade Ranil Jayawardena. The document will open up new opportunities for cooperation in the treatment of respiratory, oncological and other diseases, using new technologies, the press office of the Ministry reported to CentralAsia.news.

The work done by the Intergovernmental Commission in 2020 and new aspects of mutually beneficial partnerships were discussed. The ad-hoc working groups reported on their activities in the financial, mining, energy, scientific, educational and agricultural sectors and digital transformations.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan noted that despite the negative impact of the pandemic, UK investments in the Republic increased by 36 %, from US$ 620 million to US$ 849 million last year, noting that this positive trend continued this year. In January-June, UK investments in Kazakh economy grew by 32% compared to the same period in 2020, amounting to US$ 612 million.

The British side highly evaluated the measures taken by the Government to create an enabling business environment in the country and reaffirmed the UK’s interest in further strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships on digitalization, agribusiness, green energy and healthcare.
