The volume of export of goods from Sarakhs (Islamic Republic of Iran) to Turkmenistan increased by three times. The corresponding statement was made by the governor of Sarakhs County Mohammad-Reza Rajabi on November 4, as reported by Iran’s official news agency IRNA.
The official stressed that such results were achieved thanks to the recently concluded agreements between Tehran and Ashgabat. According to him, the number of trucks crossing the border from Sarakhs County toward Turkmenistan have increased to 150 on a daily basis, compared to 50 trucks two weeks ago.
Rajabi added that Iran plans to expand trade cooperation with all the countries of the Central Asian region.
On October 27, Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Rostam Ghasemi said that Ashgabat and Tehran had reached an agreement on doubling railway transit.
On October 17, Javad Khedayati, Director General of the Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, announced the partial reopening of all border crossings with Turkmenistan.
