Kyrgyzstan to receive US$1 million to implement climate project

The Kyrgyz side is going to expand bilateral cooperation with the GCF in a number of areas.

On November 2, the leader of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov met with Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund Yannick Glemarec on the sidelines of the World Leaders Summit in Glasgow. Japarov stressed that Kyrgyzstan was ready to expand bilateral cooperation with the Fund in the agricultural sector and for food security, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Touching upon the climate change issues, the President said Kyrgyzstan had a climate investment programme and the Centre for Climate Finance. Kyrgyzstan has estimated the cost of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures at nearly US$ 7 billion and US$ 3 billion, respectively.

Japarov assured that Kyrgyzstan supported the activities of the Green Climate Fund and welcomed bilateral project cooperation. He noted that 3 targeted programmes totalling US$ 3.4 million would help develop and implement adaptation measures in various sectors of the economy.

The Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund said the Fund was ready to provide US$1 million dollars to Kyrgyzstan on a gratuitous basis for 1 year.
