Safe Country Project enables Kazakhstan to purchase foreign weapons

On November 2, President of Kazakhstan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev received Minister of Defence Murat Bektanov. The Minister reported on the main performance indicators in 2021 and the progress of technical modernisation of the national army, the information portal of the President reported.

Bektanov said the work on the fundamental documentation aimed at achieving military security of the state had been completed and reported on the progress of the development of military infrastructure.

The President was informed on the development and approval of the Safe Country National Project. This programmatic guideline will set forth the tasks of purchasing foreign weapons and equipment, building up domestic capacity to develop weapons and digitizing activities.

Bektanov reported on the measures taken to ensure the safe storage of weapons and ammunition, as well as on the army’s ability to respond to challenges and threats.

In conclusion, the President instructed that the Minister take further measures to optimize the activities of the Ministry.
