Uzbekistan has improved activities of representative authorities

The activities of local Kengash of people’s deputies in a number of districts of Uzbekistan have been appraised.

The surveys on the activities of local Kengash of people’s deputies among representatives of local authorities, executive bodies, entrepreneurs and residents of Bahmal, Nukus and Shurchin districts have been conducted under the project “Improvement of public service delivery and governance enhancement in rural areas of Uzbekistan”, the press office of the Senate of the Oliy Majilis of Uzbekistan reports.

The project is implemented by the Senate of the Oliy Majilis, the Ministry of Justice and the Public Services Agency in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme.

The findings were discussed at the roundtable meetings, which were held to review the comments included in the surveys, on October 25-27. Deputies and employees of the district secretariats, representatives of executive authorities and non-governmental commercial organisations took part in the meetings.

The major focus of the roundtable meetings was the activities of local Kengash, their powers, organisational structure and interaction with government bodies and public organisations.

Based on the survey results, it was noted that recently local Kengash had intensified their activities thanks to the measures taken by the Senate of the Oliy Majilis – the delivery of practical assistance, training seminars and teaching aids.

The participants in the roundtable meetings discussed the issues related to monitoring local executive authorities and strengthening partnerships with state and public organisations.
