Turkmenistan launches first phase of looped power system

President Berdimuhamedov commissioned a new high-voltage double-chain overhead power transmission line Ahal-Balkan.

On October 23, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the ceremonial launch of the first stage of the single looped energy system. A new high-voltage double-chain overhead power transmission line Ahal-Balkan was put into operation. It was reported by the state news agency «Turkmenistan Today».

This line is part of a project of a single ring power system that will connect all provinces of the country. First of all, it will allow, if necessary, redistributing electricity and optimizing the operation of power grids.

A new power transmission line with a length of 421 kilometers connected the Ahal and Balkan provinces. It was laid by local companies. The state corporation Türkmenenergo has bought all the necessary equipment abroad with a loan from the ADB. Thanks to modern technical solutions, the corresponding facilities will be controlled remotely.

The looped energy system will enable mutual redundancy between the power systems of the regions. It means that the electricity will not be cut off during the modernization or repair of power units. Surplus energy will be exported to other countries.

In the future, the Balkan-Dashoguz power transmission line will be laid, and the existing Ashgabat-Mary PTL will be modernized.
