Tokayev visits sacred object of the Golden Horde

The President of Kazakhstan initiated an international conference on the history of the great state in 2022.

On October 20, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev visited the Zhoshy Khan historical and cultural complex in Ulytau district of Karaganda Region. The President made a high-ranking “pilgrimage” during his work trip to the region, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

Zhoshy Khan or Jochi is a notable contemporary of the great Golden Horde; according to historical data, he was the eldest son of Genghis Khan. When visiting the legendary place, the President could see unique artefacts and modern technologies that complemented the infrastructure of the historical complex. The perimeter of the memory includes the Zhoshy Khan mausoleum and tomb, museum with a rich collection, warrior’s sculpture, tent camp and a hotel.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev emphasised that the sacred island should always be in the spotlight of the scientific community. The leader of Kazakhstan proposed to hold a large international conference next year involving well-known foreign and Kazakh scientists.

Karaganda Region Akim Zhenis Kassymbek reported to the President on the measures taken to enhance tourism opportunities of the region. In particular, he presented a development concept that provided for the modernisation of the resort and service network and the popularisation of the historical and cultural site.
