Berdimuhamedov raised the topic at the Second Global Sustainable Transport Conference.
On October 14, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference. As part of the event, he called on the world community to help developing countries. It was reported by the news agency «Turkmenistan Today».
The President said that in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, the above countries, in particular those that do not have direct access to the oceans, were under special pressure. According to him, the main problem in the relevant direction are the restrictions in transport links.
The head of the state stressed that the UN and other international structures urgently need to help these states, especially as part of the reintegration of the developing countries into global transport processes.
Berdimuhamedov noted the importance of developing a UN Special Program for the development of interregional transport. He also invited UN member states to participate in the International Conference of Ministers of Landlocked Developing Countries that will be held in Ashgabat next April.
