OSCE PA supports parliamentary activities of Uzbekistan

The parties discussed the current state and prospects for partnerships and the expansion of contacts within the Parliamentary Assembly and other important issues.

On October 14, an Uzbekistan high-ranking delegation at the Eurasian Women’s Forum had a meeting with Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Special Representative on Central Asia Pia Kauma. The current situation and further opportunities for expanding interaction within the PA and other important issues of bilateral partnerships were considered, the press office of the Ministry of Preschool Education of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The Special Representative on Central Asia highlighted the need to strengthen close contacts between the Parliamentary Assembly and the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on the topical issues related to the organisation of observation missions for the presidential election. Kauma noted that the OSCE PA would provide overall assistance to the Republic of Uzbekistan in implementing democratic reforms and efforts to strengthen civil society institutions and support the work of the Parliament of Uzbekistan in the OSCE PA.

The interlocutor highly evaluated the results of the Mehr humanitarian aid operations that had allowed returning over 400 women and children from the conflict zone in the Middle East to their homeland.
