Rahmon and Macron discuss Afghan problem in Paris

The leaders of the two states addressed issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in a number of areas during the meeting.

On October 13, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, who warmly welcomed the leader of Tajikistan to his country during his official visit to France. The meeting focused on a discussion of security issues in the region, in particular the difficult political and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

The leader of Tajikistan noted that his country firmly upheld its position on the settlement of the situation in neighbouring Afghanistan, highlighting the importance of ensuring security in this country.

The issues in the transport and telecommunications sectors, as well as agriculture and tourism promotion were discussed.

The major areas include trade, economic and investment contacts, since the two countries have great potential for increasing the volume of goods and production and creating joint ventures.

The two leaders touched upon the cultural and humanitarian spheres, science and education, including the provision of schools in Tajikistan with French language teachers, the opening of the branches of French universities in the Republic and the allocation of student quotas.
