Hans Kluge paid an official visit to Ashgabat to participate in an international forum.
On October 7, WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge paid an official visit to Ashgabat to participate in the international forum of medical scientists. He met with Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. The parties discussed the pandemic, as reported by the press office the MFA.
On October 8, Kluge took part in the forum «Health diplomacy is the foundation of a healthy world», which is held to strengthen international cooperation in medical diplomacy, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The WHO representative and Meredov noted the high level of collaboration between Ashgabat and the World Health Organization. The Turkmen side informed Kluge with the proposals of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, put forward at international platforms.
During the meeting particular attention was paid to the importance of excluding the politicization of issues related to the coronavirus pandemic. It has to be mentioned that Berdimuhamedov has already touched upon the topic in a video message to the participants of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
Before arriving in Ashgabat, on Twitter, Kluge wrote that he will discuss the cooperation on pandemic preparedness and control with the leadership of Turkmenistan.
It should be added that Turkmenistan reported no cases of coronavirus infection. Last summer a WHO delegation arrived in Ashgabat. The representatives of the organization confirmed the absence of infection in the state.
