Tokayev meets with Secretary General of World Customs Organization

The World Customs Organization confirmed that Kazakhstan carried out excellent customs clearance practices.

On October 6, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev received Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Kunio Mikuriya. The leader of Kazakhstan noted that Kazakhstan viewed cooperation with the World Customs Organization as a key priority and highly evaluated the Secretary General’s support for the country, the information portal of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

The leader of Kazakhstan informed the interlocutor that despite the difficult circumstances of the pandemic, the comprehensive work was ongoing to support the national economy and foreign trade.

The guest emphasised Kazakhstan’s leadership in Central Asia and expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity of a personal meeting. He informed about the results of his working visit to Turkestan town. Mikuriya visited the new air harbour of the regional city and highly evaluated customs clearance practices, focusing on the transit potential of this region and the existing capacities of the East-West transport corridor.

According to the representative of the World Customs Organization, Kazakhstan had made significant progress in customs administration during the period of cooperation with the organization. The launch of the single window system and electronic customs declaration served as an example of excellent practices to follow by most of the WCO member countries, Mikuriya noted.
