US authorities highly evaluate Uzbekistan’s contribution to humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan

The President of Uzbekistan and the United States Deputy Secretary of State discussed the future enhancement of Uzbekistan-US partnerships.

On October 4, the leader of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with the US delegation led by United States Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman. The American politician commended the Republic for its efforts to help Afghanistan overcome humanitarian crisis. The interlocutors also discussed further steps to promote bilateral cooperation in various sectors, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The high-ranking officials expressed mutual interest in strengthening cooperation in the priority areas, such as politics, security, economy, trade, investment and innovation, agribusiness, energy, education, healthcare, medicine and humanitarian exchanges.

Mirziyoyev expressed sincere gratitude to the US authorities for providing effective assistance to combat the coronavirus pandemic, including the supply of high-quality vaccines to Uzbekistan as part of the global programme.

The parties also exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan. Sherman emphasised that the Uzbek side was assisting the neighbouring state and its people in achieving long-lasting peace and reviving Afghan economy.
