World Bank provides US$ 2.2 billion for projects in Tajikistan

This was what President Emomali Rahmon told the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia during a meeting.

On October 1, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held an official meeting with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde at the Presidential Palace in Dushanbe. Particular attention was paid to the funds provides by the World Bank to implement local projects, the press office of the President reported.

Rahmon emphasised that over 28 years, the Bank had provided US$ 2.2 billion via research grants, concessional loans and special funds to Tajikistan to implement 110 projects. He noted that currently the World Bank was providing financing to 23 projects totally worth about US$ 1.2 billion.

Bjerde noted that the international financial institution continued to cooperate with the Central Asian republic, because the local government consistently raised the standard of living of its people.

The interlocutors focused on the prospects for producing and exporting clean and renewable energy in Tajikistan. The parties also touched upon the pandemic and its impact on the economy and society.
