With EBRD support, Kyrgyzstan provides rural population with clean water

The irrigation project will create more than 14,300 jobs for local people in settlements.

On September 29, Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Ulukbek Maripov met with EBRD Vice President Alain Pilloux and EBRD Managing Director for Central Asia Zsuzsanna Hargitai. Maripov emphasised that the EBRD had been providing significant support to Kyrgyzstan in all key areas of development, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reported.

He also noted that he would make every effort to intensify new projects and broaden mutually beneficial cooperation.

Regarding the development of the water supply and irrigation system, it was noted that the development of the irrigation system reconstruction project was nearing completion.

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers said the implementation of the project would contribute to water use efficiency.

“The project is expected to allow developing 8,700 hectares of new irrigated land and create more than 14,300 jobs for rural populations,” Maripov said.

Alain Pilloux noted that the financial institution intended to continue assisting the Republic to support small and medium-sized businesses and provide local people with clean drinking water.
