7,665 cases of domestic violence recorded in Kyrgyzstan in 2021

The recommendations on the amendments to the Law On Domestic Violence Control and Protection were considered at the meeting.

On September 20, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhyldyz Bakashova, UNDP Resident Representative Louise Chamberlain, EU Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Eduard Auer and deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh participated in the meeting. The recommendations on the improvements in the law on domestic violence were considered at the meeting, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that the Law on Social and Legal Protection against Domestic Violence had been adopted to develop appropriate response mechanisms to prevent domestic violence.

According to Zhyldyz Bakashova, the number of cases of domestic violence was growing from year to year despite the impressive legislative framework.

According to the data presented, a record number of 7,665 cases of domestic violence has been recorded in the country since the beginning of 2021. Bakashova emphasised that in collaboration with international partners, the National Steering Committee for the implementation of the Ray of Light Country Programme aimed at combating all forms of violence against women and girls in Kyrgyzstan had intensified its activities.
