Tajikistan and Pakistan agree to restore peace in Panjshir

This topic was raised during the talks between President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.

On September 17, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received Pakistan’s Prime Minister at his palace. The talks focused on the security situation in Afghanistan and the need for joint efforts to resolve the situation, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

Rahmon and Khan noted that special attention should be paid to the economic recovery of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan under the current circumstances. They noted that the emphasis should be placed on the development of transport networks of particular importance for neighbouring states.

The President and the Prime Minister agreed to intensify joint efforts to ease the conflict and tensions in Panjshir province and open roads in this territory to provide humanitarian assistance to local populations.

The parties also agreed to facilitate jointly negotiations between the Taliban (a terrorist organisation banned in Russia) and ethnic Tajiks.

Following the meeting, the relevant departments signed an agreement on cooperation in terrorism and financial intelligence.
